Every Digital Twin on Omi is created by our 3D artists from your physical product or from reference photos. Here are the steps of the modeling process, from your order to the validation of your Digital Twin.
Step 1: Place your order
The process starts when you order the modeling of your Digital Twin on Omi.
💡 To place your order, see: How do I start modeling my Digital Twin?
Step 2: First label check
If your product has labels, our team first checks that their files are provided and correctly vectorized. This step is essential to ensure an accurate Digital Twin.
💡 To prepare your label files, see: Prepare the artwork files for your product
Step 3: Product reception
Send us your physical product or, if you prefer, detailed photos along with its exact dimensions. Photos allow us to start modeling without waiting for the product to arrive.
Our shipping address is displayed on the order page.
💡 To choose between the two options, see: Placing an order with a physical product vs photo references
Step 4: Second label check
Before modeling starts, we check that the labels match the product you sent us.
Step 5: Modeling by our 3D artists
Our 3D artists go through several phases to turn your product into a 3D model, which becomes your Digital Twin. Here is an example with a Fauchon black tea box:
1. Creating the base
The artist starts from a basic geometric shape (a primitive), which forms the skeleton of the model. For the black tea box, the artist started from a cylinder:
2. Adjusting the base
The artist sculpts this shape and refines every detail until it matches your product exactly.
3. Unwrapping the model
The model is "unfolded" like a sewing pattern, going from a 3D object to a 2D version. This makes it possible to apply textures and labels precisely.
4. Applying the labels
The artist projects the labels onto the corresponding areas of the model, as shown here with the black tea box label:
5. Applying the materials
The artist chooses the colors and applies materials to reproduce the real product. The main materials are:
Color: for colored surfaces (other than labels).
⚠️ CMYK files (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black) are designed for print, while RGB (Red, Green, Blue) is used for screens. CMYK files are converted to RGB, which can cause slight color variations.
Glossiness: for smooth, reflective surfaces.
Metallic: to reproduce metal finishes.
Normal: to create reliefs and fine textures, such as paper grain.
Transmission: for semi-transparent objects.
Here is the result on the black tea box:
6. Final adjustments
Before delivering the model, the artist adjusts the contrast, harmonizes the colors and checks every detail.
Step 6: Export to Omi
The 3D model is reviewed by several artists, then exported to Omi as your Digital Twin, which you can explore from every angle.
Step 7: Your validation
Review your Digital Twin and validate it. If something isn't right, send us your feedback to request a new version.
