Compositing: Edit your renders after generation

Adjust, crop, and style your visuals directly in Omi

Written by Sunil Vyas

Once your render is generated, the Compositing tool allows you to make edits directly to the final image without having to modify the 3D scene. This interface includes color settings, filters, as well as layout tools to crop the visual, add text, shapes, or overlay external images.

Accessing compositing settings

  1. From the Renders page (In your workspace or from a project).

  2. Click on a render to view it in full size.

  3. Once in this detailed view, click on "Customize render" in the right-hand menu.

  4. Select "Edit visual".

Interface overview

The Compositing editor is organized into 3 areas:

  • In the center, your render is displayed on a workspace where you can freely zoom in and out to navigate your composition.

  • On the left, the assets panel: this is where you add elements to your composition (images and text).

  • On the right, the settings panel: it adapts to the selected element to display its properties.

At the top of the editor, you'll also find the Undo / Redo buttons, a Resize shortcut for quick access to document resizing, a zoom selector (for display only, with no impact on export), as well as the Save and Export buttons in the top right corner.

💡 Each settings section in the right-hand panel has an eye icon () that lets you quickly show or hide the corresponding effect (Stroke, Shadow, Blur…) without deleting the setting.

1. Document settings

By default, when no element is selected, the right-hand panel displays the Document settings, that is, the overall page containing your render and all added elements.

Format

Click Select under Format to resize your document. You can:

  • Choose the unit: Pixels, Inches or Millimeters.

  • Set the resolution (in DPI) if working in inches or millimeters.

  • Enter the width and height values in the chosen unit.

Below, more than 50 presets are available for various distribution channels: Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn… as well as print formats (ISO Standard Print, North American Print, etc.).

Bleed Margin

Set up a bleed margin if your visual is intended for print.

Page settings (the render)

By clicking on your render in the center of the document, the right-hand panel displays the Page settings (the render image itself).

💡 The Show in Export option at the bottom of the panel lets you choose whether this element appears in the final export. If you uncheck it on the render itself, you will get an empty image on export.

Fill (Crop)

The Crop tool lets you crop your render directly in the editor.

Crop Area

Fill Mode

Three fill modes are available:

  • Crop: crops the image, focusing on a specific area. You can move the image within the frame in any direction to choose the visible area (for example, if you switch from a square render to a vertical format, you can slide horizontally to show more of the left or right).

  • Cover: crops the image while always fully covering the width or height. Movement is limited to a single axis.

  • Fit: displays the entire image within the chosen dimensions. If the ratio doesn't match (for example a rectangular format for a square image), empty bands appear on the sides.

Straighten

A slider that rotates the image between -45° and +45° to correct a slight tilt.

Turn & Mirror

3 buttons:

  • 90° rotation to the left

  • Vertical mirror (flip top to bottom)

  • Horizontal mirror (flip left to right)

Scale, X Offset and Y Offset

Manually adjust the position of the image within its frame:

  • Scale: as a percentage

  • X Offset and Y Offset: in pixels, for precise movement on each axis

Crop presets

At the bottom of the section, you'll find crop presets for various channels (social media, print formats…).

In the top right corner of the panel, the Reset button sets all values back to zero.

Stroke

Add an outline around your render.

  • Color: in HEX code

  • Width: in pixels

  • Line style: Solid, Dashed, Dashed Round, Long Dashed, Long Dashed Round, Dotted

In the Advanced section:

  • Position: inside or outside the render

  • Join: defines the corner style, classic (Miter), rounded (Round) or 45° (Bevel)

Appearance

The Appearance section groups four categories of visual effects applicable to your render.

Adjustments

Correct the color and lighting of your image with classic photo editing parameters: Brightness, Saturation, Contrast, Highlights, Shadows, Whites, Blacks, Temperature, Gamma, Clarity, Exposure and Sharpness.

You can save your settings as presets to quickly reapply them to other renders. Presets are available to all members of your organization.

Filters

Apply a color filter to instantly change the mood of your visual. Each filter has an intensity slider to fine-tune the effect.

Effects

Creative effects that go beyond color and apply visual transformations to your image. Each effect offers its own adjustment sliders for precise control.

List of the 19 available effects

  • Pixelize — Pixelates the image with control over pixel size

  • Radial Pixel — Pixelation in a radial pattern

  • Cross Cut — Cuts the image into crossing bands

  • Liquid — Applies a fluid distortion (settings: Intensity, Scale, Variation…)

  • Outliner — Brings out the image's outlines

  • Dot Pattern — Replaces the image with a dot pattern

  • Posterize — Reduces the number of colors for a poster effect

  • TV Glitch — Simulates a disrupted TV signal effect

  • Half Tone — Reproduces a print screen effect

  • Linocut — Imitates a linoleum engraving

  • Shifter — Shifts portions of the image

  • Mirror — Applies a symmetry effect

  • Glow — Adds a luminous halo

  • Tilt Shift — Simulates a selective focus effect

  • Extrude Blur — Applies an extrusion blur

  • Sharpie — Enhances details and lines

  • Recolor — Recolors the image

  • Green Screen — Makes a chosen color transparent (works like a real green screen: select the color to remove)

Blur

Four types of blur, each with its own adjustment sliders:

  • Gaussian Blur — Classic uniform blur

  • Linear Blur — Directional blur along an axis

  • Mirrored Blur — Blur with a symmetry effect

  • Radial Blur — Circular blur from a central point

2. Adding images

In the left-hand panel, the Images section displays the list of all images you've imported to Omi.

To add new ones, click the Upload button (upward arrow icon) and select your file.

💡 Use the PNG format if you want to keep the image's transparency (ideal for logos and graphic elements).

To insert an image into your composition, simply click on it in the list. The image then appears on your document.

Once the image is added, you can move it, resize it, duplicate it, rotate it, or move it forward/backward in the layers if your composition has multiple elements.

Image settings (right-hand panel)

When an image is selected, the right-hand panel displays its properties.

The Show in Export option lets you hide this element from the final export without deleting it.

Alignment and layers

Align the image on the document (left, center, right) and manage its position in the layer stack (forward, backward, to front, to back).

Rotation and Flip

Set the rotation angle in degrees and apply a horizontal or vertical mirror effect.

Opacity

Adjust the image's opacity using a slider.

Blend Mode

Choose a blend mode to define how the image visually interacts with the elements below it, as in a photo editing software.

List of available Blend Modes

  • Pass Through — No blending, effects pass through to lower layers

  • Normal — Standard display, no blending

  • Darken — Keeps the darkest pixels

  • Multiply — Multiplies colors, darkens the image

  • Color Burn — Darkens by increasing contrast

  • Linear Burn — Darkens by reducing brightness

  • Lighten — Keeps the lightest pixels

  • Screen — Lightens the image (inverse of Multiply)

  • Color Dodge — Lightens by reducing contrast

  • Linear Dodge — Lightens by increasing brightness

  • Lighten Color — Keeps the lightest color

  • Darken Color — Keeps the darkest color

  • Overlay — Combines Multiply and Screen based on brightness

  • Soft Light — Effect similar to Overlay, more subtle

  • Hard Light — Effect similar to Overlay, more pronounced

  • Vivid Light — Combines Color Burn and Color Dodge

  • Linear Light — Combines Linear Burn and Linear Dodge

  • Pin Light — Replaces colors based on brightness

  • Hard Mix — Reduces colors to their maximum values

  • Difference — Shows the difference between layers

  • Exclusion — Similar to Difference, with less contrast

  • Subtract — Subtracts the colors of the lower layer

  • Divide — Divides the colors of the lower layer

  • Hue — Applies the image's hue to the lower layer

Transformation

Position and size the image precisely by entering values in pixels and percentage.

Shape

The Round Corners setting lets you round the corners of the imported image using a slider.

Fill, Stroke, Appearance and Shadow

You'll then find the same settings as for the page:

  • Fill (Crop): cropping, Fill Mode, Straighten, Turn & Mirror, Scale and Offsets

  • Stroke: outline with choice of color, width, style and position

  • Appearance: Adjustments, Filters, Effects and Blur

To add new ones:

  1. Click the Upload button (upward arrow icon).

  2. Accepted formats are: .ttf, .otf, .woff and .woff2. Once added, fonts are available to your entire organization.

To add text to your composition, simply click on a font in the list. A text block then appears on the document.

As with images, you can move it, resize it, rotate it, duplicate it, copy/paste it, and manage its position in the layers.

Click the Edit button to edit the text content.

Text settings (right-hand panel)

When a text is selected, the right-hand panel displays its properties.

The Show in Export option lets you hide this element from the final export without deleting it.

  • Padding: adjust how far the background extends beyond the text (in pixels)

  • Round Corners: round the corners of the background with a slider

Shadow

Add a drop shadow to the text with color, angle, distance and blur settings.

4. Save and export

Once your edits are complete, two options are available in the top right corner of the editor:

  • Save: saves your edits to Omi. Your settings are kept if you want to come back to them later.

  • Export: opens the download menu. Choose the format for your final file from PNG, JPEG, PDF or WEBP, then download it to your computer.
