Once your video render is generated, the Video Compositing tool lets you rework it without going back to the 3D scene. You'll find the timeline for trimming and arranging your clips, along with the same image, text and styling settings already available for photos.
The video option is only available to clients who have subscribed to this feature. If you're interested in this option, feel free to contact your account manager or reach out to support via chat or by email at support@omi.so.
Accessing Video Compositing
Go to the Renders page (in your workspace or from a project).
Click a video render to view it in full size.
In the right-hand menu, click
Customize render.Select
Edit visual.
The editor opens with your clip already placed in the timeline.
Interface overview
The editor is organized into 4 areas:
In the center, your render is displayed on a workspace where you can freely zoom in and out to navigate your composition.
On the left, the assets panel: this is where you add elements to your composition (images and text).
On the right, the settings panel: it adapts to the selected element to display its properties.
At the bottom, the timeline: the horizontal area where you arrange your clips in the order they play.
At the top of the editor, you'll also find the Undo / Redo buttons, a Resize shortcut for quick document resizing, a zoom selector (for display only, with no impact on export), as well as the Save and Export buttons in the top right corner.
💡 Each settings section in the right-hand panel has an eye icon that lets you show or hide the corresponding effect (Stroke, Shadow, Blur…) without deleting the setting.
1. The timeline
The timeline displays your clips on parallel tracks, a playhead to navigate, and the playback and editing controls.
Content is split across two types of tracks:
Clip track: the video content.
Overlay track: text and images layered over the video.
The display order of the tracks determines depth in the scene: a track moved up comes to the front, a track moved down goes to the back.
Click the Timeline ^ button to collapse it and free up space on the workspace, or to reopen it.
Navigate and preview
The playhead is the vertical line that marks the current position. Move it by clicking in the time ruler or by dragging it.
Drag it back and forth to preview frames without starting playback: it's the fastest way to find the exact moment to edit.
The playback bar contains the Play button, a loop control and the current timecode. Playback automatically syncs the video and the overlays.
Background
The Background button, located to the left of the playback bar, sets the color visible between two clips or when the video is deleted.
It opens a full color menu: RGB, CMYK, Hex and hue settings, transparency, solid color or gradient, and an eyedropper to pick a color from the scene. An option also lets you disable the background for a transparent backdrop.
2. Editing clips
Select a clip by clicking it, either on the workspace or in the timeline. Selecting it reveals the editing handles and displays the clip's properties in the right-hand panel.
To select several clips at once, hold SHIFT while clicking each one, or draw a box with the cursor in the timeline.
Trim a clip
Selected clips display handles at their start and end:
Left handle: shorten the clip from the start.
Right handle: shorten the clip from the end.
Trimmed portions are no longer played and disappear from the timeline.
💡 Trimming removes nothing from the source media: you can always lengthen the clip again by dragging the handle back the other way.
Split a clip (Split clip)
The Split clip button cuts the selected clip in two at the playhead position. Each segment then becomes editable independently, and no part of the original content is removed.
⚠️ The button only works if a clip is selected and the playhead is within its duration.
Duplicate, delete and rearrange
A clip can be duplicated or deleted from its context menu.
To rearrange your clips, drag them along the horizontal axis. Their position determines their start point in the composition: to the left to start earlier, to the right to start later. The editor automatically adjusts positions to avoid overlaps on the same track and shows a drop indicator while you move a clip.
Gaps left between two clips appear as empty frames showing the Background color.
3. Document settings
By default, when no element is selected, the right-hand panel displays the Document settings, that is, the page containing your video and all added elements.
Format
Click Select under Format to resize your document in pixels. More than 50 presets are available for various distribution channels: Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn…
Clip content
This option determines whether elements that extend beyond the document edges stay visible or are cropped. When enabled, anything that overflows is hidden on export.
4. Clip, image and text settings
The right-hand panel settings are identical to those in photo Compositing. Select an element to access them:
Alignment and layers: align the element and manage its position in the layer stack.
Rotation and Flip: rotation angle in degrees, horizontal or vertical mirror.
Opacity: element opacity.
Blend Mode: blend mode defining how the element visually interacts with those below it.
Transformation: precise position and size, in pixels and percentage.
Shape: rounded corners via Round Corners.
Fill (Crop): cropping, Fill Mode, Straighten, Turn & Mirror, Scale and offsets.
Stroke: outline, with choice of color, width, style and position.
Appearance: Adjustments, Filters, Effects and Blur.
Shadow: drop shadow, with color, angle, distance and blur.
For the details of each setting, see the article Compositing: Edit your renders after generation.
The Show in Export option lets you hide an element from the final file without deleting it.
Adding images and text
The left-hand panel works as it does for photos:
Images: the list of all images imported to Omi. Click the Upload button to add more, then click an image to insert it.
Text: the list of fonts imported to Omi. Accepted formats: .ttf, .otf, .woff and .woff2. Click a font to create a text block.
💡 Use the PNG format to keep an image's transparency, ideal for logos and graphic elements.
Each added element appears on its own track, at the start of the timeline. Drag its handles to set when it appears and for how long.
5. Save and export
Two buttons are available in the top right corner of the editor:
Save: saves your project to Omi. Your settings are kept if you want to come back to them later.Export: opens the download menu.
Export is in MP4, at the resolution of the original render: a 2K render produces a 2K output.
