Lighting defines shapes, creates shadows and reflections, and affects how your scene is perceived. In Omi, you can adjust environmental and artificial lighting to control the appearance of your scene.


The Role of Light in 3D

Light in a 3D scene plays a similar role to light in the real world: it defines shapes, creates shadows and reflections, and sets the mood.

Good lighting helps make details and textures visible and establishes the overall atmosphere of a scene.


Types of lights in Omi

Omi provides two main types of lighting:

  • Environmental Light: simulates natural daylight.

  • Artificial Light: allows you to control the lighting added to the scene.

☀️ Environmental Light

Environmental light simulates natural daylight. The available options in the Natural Light category are:

  • Midday Sun - Soft Shadow

  • Morning Sun - Strong Shadow

  • Morning Sun - Soft Shadow

  • Midday Sun - Strong Shadow

For an evening atmosphere, you can also use the Sunset light available in Omi.

🔦 Artificial Light

Artificial lights allow you to control the lighting of your scene. They are divided into two main categories: temperature lights and colored lights.

Temperature lights

Temperature lights range from cool to warm tones:

  • Cool: blue tones, suitable for technological or futuristic environments.

  • Neutral: white tones, suitable for most environments.

  • Warm: yellow and orange tones, creating a warmer atmosphere.

Colored Lights

Omi also provides colored lights that can be used to emphasize specific elements of your scene.

The Role of Shadows in a 3D Scene

Shadows help define the depth and appearance of your scene.

Here’s why shadows are so important:

🕳️ Create depth: shadows add dimension and prevent objects from appearing flat.

🔷 Define shapes: shadows emphasize contours and details.

🔥 Set the mood: sharp shadows create stronger contrasts, while soft shadows produce a more natural appearance.

👀 Direct attention: shadows can help highlight specific elements of your scene.

In Packshot templates, you can disable shadows by selecting the background and unchecking the shadow option. This removes shadows from the scene and keeps the focus on the Digital Twin.


The Role of Reflections in a 3D Scene

Reflections contribute to the appearance and realism of a 3D scene. The selected reflection affects how the surrounding environment is reflected on elements in the scene.

For example, selecting the Haunted Forest reflection creates a dark forest environment that is reflected on the elements in the scene:
